              SCOUT UNIFORM

Walk through the ranks of Cub Scouting as you learn about each uniform and how to officially wear it with pride.

Scout Bank (Uniform Bank)

One of Scouting's methods of youth development includes wearing a uniform. The Scout uniform makes Scouting visible as a force for good, signifies the Scout's commitment to Scouting ideals, and serves as an economic equalizer for all Scouts. Recognizing the essential role of the uniform in Scouting, the "Scout Bank Uniform Bank"  program, is run by T394, a dedicated Scouter family and Troop. They offer assistance to Scouts who would not otherwise be able to purchase a uniform.

To request a gently used uniform go HERE.

To pick up or drop off a gently used uniforms, please go to the "Will Call" table at the Scout Shop. (Remeber "Gently Used means - "like new".)

NEW training required for ALL volunteers!

As announced earlier, a new law has taken effect in California and will further support our mission to protect youth in our program from neglect and abuse. Pursuant to California Business and Professions Code Section 18975 (formally referred to as AB 506 of 2021), volunteers, employees, and administrators are now required to take an additional training and complete a Live Scan background check.  Visit www.californiascouting.org
for details and links to resources.

We will continue to update on specifics for the Live Scan background check process as it becomes available to our council. In the interim, we ask that volunteers refrain from initiating a Live Scan for Scouting until it becomes available for our council.

San Jose - Our City

Hole-y moley POTHOLES! Every year, San José road crews repair up to 11,000 potholes. Given our 2,400 miles of paved roads, that’s almost five potholes per mile.

That sounds like a lot, but the City of San José is up to the task. Here’s how you can help fill in gaps.

Find them A pothole is any hole in the street with a defined edge. Make sure it’s not a sinkhole with rounded edges, or just your run-of-the-mill crack in the ground.

Potholes form when water gets under the pavement and softens the material beneath. When vehicles drive over the weakened surfaces (or when freezing causes water to expand) the asphalt cracks. Eventually, those cracks get bigger and loosen pavement, and create voids. Voila — you have a pothole.

Take note of where they are around your neighborhood or usual driving route.

Report them. The easiest way to report a pothole is by downloading the San José 311 app so you can report them on the go. Or simply visit the website, then:
  • Under “What would you like to report?” select “Pothole.”
  • Create or log into your account to receive updates, or “Submit as guest.”
  • Enter the address or drop a pin where you saw the pothole. You can also add a picture and brief description to help the repair team find it.
If you’d rather not file a report online, you can always give (408) 794-1900 a call.

Got other issues to report? Learn more about San José’s 311 service.

Youth Protection Training and California Assembly BIll 506

California Assembly Bill 506 became law on September 16, 2021. AB 506 requires administrators, employees, and regular volunteers of youth service organizations to:
  • Complete training in child abuse and neglect identification and reporting
  • Undergo a background check to identify and exclude any persons with a history of child abuse
  • Ensure mandatory reporting of suspected incidents of child abuse to persons or entities outside of the organization
  • Require two mandatory reporters whenever in contact or in the supervision of children
The BSA’s Youth Protection Training standards required of all registered adults, our two deep leadership policy, and the criminal background check performed with an adult volunteer’s registration appear to meet most of the requirements of this law. The BSA’s routine criminal background check does not meet this standard, thus a background check with finger print scan will be required soon.
